The hotel Les Clarines in the heart of the Bauges, partner of Geopark!
What is a Geopark?
Geopark is a label obtained by natural parks. The label is recognized by UNESCO to highlight the exceptional geological territory of the concerned site, the work of animation and promotion of its heritage. Beyond the labeling, the Geopark is also a good way for territories to make inventories, to preserve and enhance geo-heritage, putting at the heart of the process the respect of the environment and its resources.
The Geopark aims at bringing together the actors of a territory around the same project to increase their efficiency and visibility.
In our case, the Regional Natural Park of the Massif des Bauges has the Geopark label.
A regional natural park is to be distinguished from a national park or a nature reserve:
“Born of a local will, the Park is organized around a project carried out in broad consultation with willing local partners. Its operation is based on a particular management of the remarkable and inhabited rural territory, putting together the involvement of the local officials and the privileged partnership of the regional and departmental officials, with the association of the local living forces (inhabitants, socio-professional representatives, associations…).”
The Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park
The Regional Natural Park of the Massif des Bauges highlights its geo-heritage by promoting awareness of its interest. It supports local initiatives for the development and educational explanation of geosites. The reading approaches of the tourist or local walker were thought to make discover the environmental heritage under ludic, artistic or scientific forms in connection with the various partners of the Park.
The Park connects the professional actors and devotes its actions to the accompaniment of the local professionals in the development of the heritage. This may include financial assistance or site development. The network of local actors of the Regional Natural Park of the Massif des Bauges allows everyone to share knowledge, to work on projects to promote tourist products or to instill a culture around sustainable development in an eco-tourism vision. Renewing the link between Man and Earth, such is the motto of the Bauges Geopark!
The Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park was created in 1995 by decree of the Prime Minister at the time. The voluntary commitment of the communes of the Bauges, and the quality of the heritage allowed this creation.
The Park is governed by a charter which gathers commitments such as :
– To better welcome the public
– Preserve and perpetuate heritage and landscapes
– Develop the territory at the economic level
Each park has its own missions, in the case of the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park there are 5 main missions to focuse on:
“The actions of the Park are carried out in connection with the 5 missions of the Regional Natural Parks, specified in the Environment Code in articles L.333-1 to L.333-16:
- The protection and management of the natural and cultural heritage, in particular through the appropriate management of natural environments and landscapes.
- Land use planning, by contributing to the definition and orientation of development projects.
- The economic and social development, by animating and coordinating the economic and social actions to ensure a quality of life on its territory; the Parks support the respectful companies of the environment which develop its natural and human resources.
- Reception, education and information of the public. The parks encourage contact with nature and make the inhabitants aware of environmental problems.
- Experimentation and research. The Parks contribute to research programs and have a mission to initiate new procedures and methods of action.”
The Federation of Regional Natural Parks of France is the spokesperson for the network of Regional Natural Parks. The Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park is currently part of a network of 10 Regional Natural Parks representing nearly 30% of the area of the Auvergne Rhône-Apes region and 25% of the municipalities concerned.
Partner of the Geopark label recognized by Unesco!
The hotel Les Clarines in the heart of the Bauges, naturally wished to be one of the local partners of the Geopark. Our geographical location, our love for the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park, our values and our tourism services are in line with Geopark’s criterias for being a partner in the network of local actors.
The coherence of the actions and promotion of the territory realized in collaboration with Geopark and the network of local actors is a plus. We offer all our customers, in addition to the hotel and restaurant services, information on hiking around the Inn. We also have a network of partners (guides, good addresses ….) who are available to all hotel guests.
Here in the Bauges, it is important to us to preserve our mountain environment and to make the hotel’s guests aware of environmental issues. We often talk about hiking with a discourse oriented on the preservation of spaces and resources since the Bauges are an exceptionally well preserved Massif and full of biodiversity.
Indeed, when our customers or locals go for a walk in the Bauges massif, they can discover the charm and the quality of the meadows, the mountain pastures, the orchards or the vineyards. Here in “Baujue land”, farmers are true artisans of the land and know how to preserve it! This is one of the criteria for the “Geopark” label of which we are proud.
We hope you will enjoy your stay with us and we are at your disposal for any questions you may have.
